Street Level Initiative seeks to create livable cities for artists by focusing on what draws them to urban centers. We examine what artists have, what they want, and what they need to develop resources programming that strengthen and sustain our creative communities. Our goal is to help creative people find ways to sustain their lives in the communities they help create.
As a Brooklyn-based collaboration, we will examine a widening geographic scope beginning with our local community of Bedford-Stuyvesant, our borough of Brooklyn then moving on to all five boroughs of New York City and beyond. Our projects emerge from where creativity is brought to life: on the streets, in artists’ studios, and in neighborhoods or communities. We are interested in creativity from its source: at the street level.
